Ah coffee, just the smell of it in the morning makes my entire day better. If you know that feeling, then you’re probably on the same level as me. I love coffee for so many reasons, but I think the main reason I love it is the vibe.

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I have been testing out some different coffee brands trying to find the best. The best flavor, the one that makes me feel the best, the healthiest and honestly most importantly, low acidic. I have acid reflux, and I was told I would have to stop drinking coffee. Ugh.

Thank the LAWD I found something that’s easy on my stomach.

Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee

Believe it or not, coffee is actually pretty good for you. It definitely isn’t for everyone. Pay attention to the way your body reacts to coffee, and find the perfect balance for you. For me, 1 and a half cups is my sweet spot.

Some Reasons to Drink a Cup of Coffee:

  • According to the Journal of Pain, two cups of coffee can cut post-workout pain by 48% (say whaaaaat?)
  • It contains fiber and antioxidants (the new coffee brand I’ve been drinking has the highest amount antioxidants of all coffees!)
  • It can help decrease risks for some diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s, and even has been shown to lower depression!
  • Coffee can help you lose weight and increase your performance.
  • There’s also been a ton of research done to show that coffee improves mood, memory, and brain function altogether.
  • Plus, can we go back to the vibe? I know this can’t just be me. Starting my day with coffee just makes everything better.

While coffee itself can be beneficial for you, there are so many coffee brands that do not test for mold or “mycotoxins” which can be harmful to your health.

What Are Mycotoxins

So basically, mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by microfungi that are capable of causing disease and death in humans and other animals. So, not good.

These molds can grow on edible crops, including coffee beans. Consuming large amounts of these is horrible for your health, and can even cause poisoning.

  • 20 of 60 samples of green coffee beans from Brazil had low levels of Ochratoxin A (source).
  • 18 of 40 coffee brews from commercially available coffee beans contained Ochratoxin A (source).
  • Aflatoxins have been found in green coffee beans, the highest level in decaffeinated beans. Roasting reduced the levels by 42-55% (source).
  • 8 of 30 roast coffees contained Ochratoxin A, but much higher amounts were found in chili (source).

The reason that coffee brands can get away with this is that while it’s toxic, it’s somewhat regulated (much like all the other insane health regulations). When we think of choosing organic foods, we don’t usually think “coffee”. But if you care about your health, you really should look into an organic coffee. Do your own research, you’ll seriously be shocked.

Mass-Produced Coffee Risks

Okay, so you may be as disgusted as I was when I started doing my research. I was surprised at first, but in reality, most coffee brands don’t test for mold mycotoxins just as most food brands don’t limit the crazy chemicals they put in our food. Most name brands will want to do it the cheapest, quickest way possible – not necessarily the healthiest.  I’m so thankful I finally found a coffee brand that I trust, that I can shout from the rooftops about! Like seriously, I feel like I need to break into everyone’s house and hook them up with this coffee.

Coffee itself is basically considered a superfood with all the antioxidants it contains, but poor production of coffee is where health risks and adverse effects come into play. The way coffee is stored, shipped and, mass-produced can increase the risk of having coffee with toxins inside. These toxins include Ochratoxin A, Acrylamide and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). It is also important to note that 97% of coffee has fertilizer on it, leaving only 3% of coffee being organic.

If you are purchasing coffee that is mass-produced, it’s likely not organic. This is why it’s so important to do research before putting it into your body.

Let’s Talk About Purity Coffee

FINALLY – let’s get into the good stuff. I know you may just now be having this realization about coffee, and may even be skeptical. All I can say is that you just need to try it for yourself.

You guys know I’m a research nerd, so obviously I had to compare and contrast the different coffees, and you will find it nearly impossible to find a brand of coffee that tests for mycotoxins/mold. It’s pretty disturbing actually.

The thing that stands out to me the most about this brand is that every single step they take, they take into consideration how it will affect your health. Their coffee is the healthiest, purest, most organic coffee out there. See their lab results.

If you are a health nut like me, you likely have made some sort of change that made your body feel amazing. You know that feeling of cutting sodium or sugar, and then trying to eat something salty or sugary? YUCK

Drinking Purity coffee feels clean and fresh. Instead of crashing or feeling jittery, you feel energized all throughout the day.

I’m so excited to be partnering with them as well as spreading the word about mycotoxins in coffee. Because they are seriously the best, they gave me a discount to share with you all so you can taste and feel the difference for yourself.
