Let’s talk acne. I never had acne until I was an adult, and it wasn’t just a pimple here and there. I had deep, cystic acne all over my face and neck. Covering it didn’t help much because they were so big and red, and actually my entire face would be inflamed.
Even though coverage didn’t do much, I was always too embarrassed to leave the house without a face full of makeup on (which hello, makes it worse.) It was an endless cycle.
I Tried Everything
When I tell you I have tried everything, I have tried everything. I’ve tried at least three different 3-Step systems including proactive and Clinique. Clinique kind of helped, but it was super expensive to get pretty good results. I even went to a dermatologist and was prescribed a retinoid cream, which worked okay. But again, it’s pretty expensive to only be getting okay results.
So, I gave up on topical treatments and started focusing on what I was putting in my body. I cut out dairy and sugar, I tried being vegan, and I’ve tried keto. Literally every end of the spectrum. Let me just say, I do wholeheartedly believe what we put into our body affects our skin.
I feel like my cystic acne was trying to tell me something. Now, I don’t follow any strict diet plan and just eat intuitively. I pay attention to what makes me feel energized and good, and I pay attention to what makes me feel shitty and groggy.
Again, doing this helped a TON, but not quite the whole picture.
Enter MD Complete
I seriously am amazed that I found something that works for my skin. Like literally, blown away. Yes, they sent me a kit to test out in exchange for an honest review. But this blog post is all me because I truly believe in their product.
For the first time, I realized what I was doing wrong. I needed a system that worked inside my body and topically simultaneously. SO SIMPLE – but I’ve never seen a company who has a system like this. Until MD Complete.
They give you a 3 Step System. Now, I will warn you, if you have sensitive skin the first few times you use it it may burn just a bit. I have extremely sensitive skin, and this went away after a week (using it 3x a week) I use all 3 steps every day now and I’m fine.
BUT WAIT – THERE’S MORE. They give you probiotics designed to help with skin!! This stuff is a game changer! They’re little liquid shots, which I love. Liquid absorbs into your body better than a pill so you actually get your money’s worth. They’re really good too, they taste citrusy!
Their kit is super inexpensive considering how amazing it is. I think everyone with cystic acne should at least try it. Like I said, I have tried everything. This shit works.

Also,
So while we’re on the subject of working the inside out, there’s another product I have been using and loving for about a week now. I have been adding Better C to my smoothies and I am definitely seeing a difference in my skin. Since my skin as already been getting clear with MD Complete, it’s hard to say if this stuff helped with that.
BUT – my skin has never been more glowy. Even Billy said something about it. People are noticing that my skin has a natural glow.
Cleaning Up the Acne Scars
So once you heal the cystic acne, you typically have some lovely acne scars left behind. This is why I love microneedling. I know a lot of people are afraid of it, but it’s so luxurious to me. I would rather get a microneedling treatment done than a mani-pedi. Like, if I’m going to spend money on beauty it better have a long-term impact.

I’ll honestly probably do another article about microneedling because it is seriously amazing. It encourages collagen production, which keeps us looking young. For me, it has been erasing my acne scarring like magic.
Not only that, but the entire texture of my skin has changed. Before when I tried to contour my face it would look completely uneven. Parts of my skin would be oily and parts of my skin would be dry. The end result was splotchy looking, and nothing I tried helped. (If one more person would have told me to start exfoliating, omg)
But, like I said, I’ll save diving deep into microneedling for another day.
Have you overcome your cystic acne struggle? What helped you? I’d love to know your secrets!
