Hey guys, I actually worked out today. Like, a real workout – not a walk or jog! Not at a gym because I’m insanely awkward and hate the gym. Anyone else?

It doesn’t matter how much I learn about the body, proper form, the machines or anything – I hate the vibe there. So yeah, I’m an at-home workout junkie through and through.

So, if you are reading this I’m assuming you are feeling sort of like I have been. Kind of wanting to work out, but “eh” maybe another day. You used to work out and felt amazing, but you fell off the wagon and just have completely lost motivation.

Lucky for you, I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

Add Your Habit to an Existing One

Nothing too new and fancy here, but it works. I have a pretty strict morning routine, and I just threw working out in with it. I used to think that I couldn’t work out in the morning, but the truth was that I wasn’t getting enough sleep. (I’m going to give you all the sleep tips in an upcoming post)

Anyway, after I do my morning routine, I decided to spend an hour or so cleaning, and then do my workout. While I clean, I listen to some 2000 Hip Hop music which fires me up. Plus nothing makes me feel more clean, happy and energized like a clean and decluttered apartment.

So really, I added two routines to one. Basically, I’m crushing life.

Ease In Slowly, Don’t Overwhelm Yourself

So here is my old drill: Get super motivated to work out -> go hard on a strict meal plan -> do 45-minute workouts -> fall off in a week. SO DUMB.

This time, I chose a program that allows you to ease in. (And by the way, don’t try making up your own workout routine unless you are a personal trainer.) The one I’m currently doing is amazing. The first week is only 25-minute workouts and you slowly work up to 45 minutes.

I know from previous experience, once I get into the routine of working out I don’t mind stepping up the game. I also got insane results from this program in the past, so it’s pretty motivating in itself.

If you want to do the same workout as me, you can actually do it free for two weeks. (Make sure to scroll down to the 3-month option if you want to try before you buy). I’ve done my research, and all the other home workouts are the same price or higher for like 10 different (less than exciting) workouts. NO THANK YOU – I get bored too easily. And I’m forever cheap.

(Results from last year)

Know Why You Want to Start Again

In the past, I would share about my new workout routine all over Facebook and Instagram and basically get super into it. I thought that if I told a bunch of other people it would help me stay committed. I think that helps other people, but for me, it doesn’t work.

I’m to the point where I don’t give a shit what people think, and the thought of someone judging me because I haven’t worked out in a bit is ridiculous. If someone is that worked up about my workout schedule, that’s just weird.

The reason I’m doing it this time is not to get results that will help my home business (which used to be to sell these programs), but now it’s just because I know I’m a better person when I work out.

I’m totally out of shape and I don’t feel the way I do when I am in optimal health, so I just felt in my heart that it was time. I want to be the best version of myself, I want to be able to do more and more things that will require strength and endurance, I want more energy and I want to live a long life. Of course, I also want to feel badass and confident about my body, but it’s less about that.

Action Creates Motivation

I’ve talked about this before, but the action is what creates motivation. In fact, I don’t really believe in motivation. Nobody no matter how successful is motivated all the time. After a while, you just get into a routine. I’m almost never motivated to brush my teeth at night because I’m lazy. I do it because I don’t want to have cavities and I think it’s gross not to.

Once you’ve gotten in the habit of working out, you know how bad it feels not to and you know how good you feel afterward. You know the feeling of looking in the mirror and feeling ecstatic. You know the feeling of looking at the scale, measurements or progress pictures and feeling the excitement. You may not be motivated at the moment, but doing the action helps you to want to do it more in the future.

Hope that makes sense!

So, I’m not sure if I’ll last the full three weeks. I’m not sure if I’ll get bored and choose another program. I’m not sure if I’ll miss a few days. All I know is, right now I’m ready for a change.

Are you trying to get back into a routine? Let me know if this is helpful! I’m also thinking of making a very low-key support group for anyone who’s been wanting to get back into working out again. If that’s something that interests you, comment below!
