If you haven’t heard of Lauryn Evarts or the Skinny Confidential, then IDK – but you need to change that. Simply put, Lauryn Evarts is a boss ass bitch who gives cheeky advice on health, skin care, business, and beyond. She has a book, blog, podcast, and is really active on Instagram and YouTube. Basically, she is wonder woman, and when you see how much high-quality content she puts out you can easily see why she is so successful.
I have to credit a lot of my blogging growth and even Instagram growth from her. Between reading her articles and listening to podcasts, I’ve learned so much about what it takes to be a blogger. So, here’s to you Lauryn, if you read this. Thanks for being fucking amazing.
1. Treat Everyone Like They’re an Influencer
Sometimes I like to build up to the best tip, and sometimes I just like to put it all out there and give you the goods. While there is no specific order to this list, this is one you need to really take note of. Lauryn not only talks the talk, but she walks the walk.
Most people hear of the Skinny Confidential from word of mouth, and there is a reason for it. She treats everyone like they are huge influencers, no matter how big or small their following or circle of friends is.
In fact, she recently replied to my comment on Instagram saying, “I FUCKIN LOVE U”, to which I died. But then, she followed me! Does she need to? I mean, clearly, I fucking love her already. She didn’t follow me as a way to gain another person, she did it because she’s basically saying, “I see you girl. Thanks for the support.” And that is a huge reason I, and a lot of people fuckin love her.
Simply put, Lauryn sees people, not numbers.
Oh, and mind you, she has nearly 800,000 followers and STILL engages with her audience. If this amazing boss woman can do this, then you have no excuse.
2. Create a Community
Another thing Lauryn kicks ass at is creating the community factor. This isn’t an easy feat on Instagram, but she still does it! I have followed some really amazing people from her comment threads.
The girl thinks outside the box too! It’s not just “tag a friend who ____” all the time. Yeah, she does that. But, she also takes it up a notch. You can really see that community is very important to her.
One way I’ve seen her do this is
Another thing she will do is a location thread. She’ll have everyone drop where they are from and engage with people in the communities.
She also has a ton of Facebook pages dedicated to “skinny’s” (what she calls the community!) where everyone can have meet ups and talk all things TSC.
3. She Doesn’t Give a Fuck
This is another tip you need to read, underline, highlight, and then read again. The less you can care about what people will think, the better your growth will be.
I honestly believe if I met Lauryn in person, I would know exactly what to expect. I mean, she just lays it all out there. She once talked about how her and Michael, her husband, have a giant black dildo they hide in each other’s things. (Not those things. Like, their shoes and stuff.) That says a lot about a person, and from that moment I knew she was my people.
You can just tell when you watch her that what you see is what you get. If you don’t like her, move the fuck on. But if you do like her, then well, you will eventually fall in love with her.
Once you stop trying to please everybody, all of the cool people will start coming out of the woods. The people who are your people. The people who GET YOU. The people you want to go to happy hour with and know you can say whatever crazy thoughts roll into your brain. THOSE are the people you want to attract.
4. She Commits to Never Stop Evolving
I see a lot of people on social media who have a ton of followers, who are clearly a-okay where they’re at. Their pics are pretty good, their captions are a little catchy, but there’s not much below the surface.
You can just tell when someone is a creative being who is constantly working to improve. If you look at her pictures or her blog posts, you can physically watch her evolve.
I’ve followed her for about a year, and her pictures look way different than they used to. She is always learning new techniques, always experimenting with different looks, and well, always evolving.
She doesn’t just evolve creatively. She talks frequently about always learning something new and growing as a person.
There are honestly so many more things I could say about The Skinny Confidential and Lauryn Evarts. Perhaps I’ll do a part two, or maybe I’ll reach out at some point and interview her. For now, go follow her and pay attention. I can’t wait for you to fall in love with her too.
