Do you know to accept the things you can and can’t change? By learning acceptance, including accepting yourself and others, you’ll be able to take charge of your life. Once you’re in command, you’ll have a better perspective on improving your life. Learning to accept leads you to discover yourself.

Many believe we have instituted our identity when we always act the same way. This, however, isn’t the case. We have many complex emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and actions and have been infested by tremendous and bad influences. Every day we experience an array of new views and feelings, which drives our personality to mirror these adaptations.

The thing is, we live in a desensitizing world. With thousands of influences in the media, school systems, and the government, it’s easy to question your own beliefs, resulting in left self- and life-acceptance. While we can’t change how anyone around us thinks, we control our minds. It sounds cheesy, but if you want to change the world, you must change yourself. Then, you can let your influence empower others around you.

Additionally, if you’re like me, learning to accept the insanity in the world (and within myself sometimes) has led to more humor. It’s exhausting to live a life where you wish things were different in the blink of an eye. However, accepting things the way they are, allows you to see the hilarity in the ridiculousness. Once you can see life’s sense of humor, you’ll feel better internally.

Most importantly, growth leads to hunger. This hunger will guide you to a whole new level of self-discovery and personal development. You’ll be able to tackle more goals and live a life that you align with.

Layers of Personal Development and Learning Acceptance

Personal development is more complex than it sounds, and many experts have their own unique definitions of it. Simply put, your personality is an amalgamation of physical, mental, and characteristics. There is an immense misunderstanding and lack of ignoring the importance of developing yourself. The hardest part? Accepting what needs to change in the first place.

Although many books discuss what it takes to be successful and happy, many miss an important piece; having a level of acceptance throughout the process. What if you didn’t have to wait to feel successful and happy, what if you could feel that way and work on personal development simultaneously?

Feeling guilty is easy when you’re working on your personal development. So, you read all the things it takes, feel overwhelmed and guilty, and then throw in the towel. Rather than trying to overhaul everything at once, start with a small step at a time.

Personal Development Steps:

  1. Learning acceptance and accepting that you must improve yourself. The first layer is the conscious layer, so begin by working on shifting conscious thoughts. More on that in 4 Simple But Powerful Ways to Eliminate Self-Sabotaging Behavior Now.
  2. Shifting your subconscious. The second layer is the subconscious, which affects our behaviors and actions. To shift your subconscious mind, you’ll need to change with physical action. Journal, meditate, do yoga, go on a walk, etc. These actions help slow your mind down so you can tap into your subconscious thoughts, and by choosing a daily activity and sticking with it, you prove to your subconscious how powerful you are.
  3. Managing your mind and emotions. Third, we have the mental layer which relates to your mind and emotions. Once you follow steps one and two, your mindset will slowly improve, allowing you to handle negative emotions more gracefully and move past them quickly.

Conclusion

Accepting is the first and most crucial step to improving your life. I mean, you can’t change what you aren’t aware of, right? Although this sounds simple, you’d be surprised how many people fail to accomplish this first step and don’t change much in their lives. Remember you’re human, and show yourself grace throughout the acceptance process.
