You’re following everything you’ve been told, you work out regularly, you watch what you eat but still are not seeing results. What gives?

There’s a fairly good chance you’ve just been following wrong or out-dated advice.

MYTH: Crunches are the best way to gain abdominal muscles and burn belly fat.
FACT: Standard crunches only activate a small group of abdominal muscles. Not only that, but many of those who do standard crunches are not using proper form and can actually cause spinal injuries. In order to be able to see abdominal muscles, the body fat percentage needs to be quite small. Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “abs are made in the kitchen”? Well, it’s true!

MYTH: You need to work out for at least 45-60 minutes to receive a health benefit.
FACT: Studies are showing that just 30 (or even 10!) minutes of exercise can substantially increase your health. In fact, there are lot’s of studies that show small 10 minute sessions may actually be more beneficial for you!

MYTH: If you’re a woman who lifts weights, you’ll get bulky “man arms”.
FACT: Women typically have less muscle tissue and produce lower levels of testosterone than men. Lifting weights is a great way for women to tone up, burn calories, and lose fat!

MYTH: You can target where to burn fat.
FACT: Even if you focus on working your lower body, your upper body will lose some fat and vise versa. Working out will, however, reduce your overall body fat. You can choose where to gain muscle by working on a specific group of muscles, but the fat loss will not be targeted.

MYTH: It’s bad to work out on an empty stomach.
FACT: Your body actually burns more fat when you work out on an empty stomach! Make sure you’re staying hydrated though – drink plenty of water!

MYTH: You need to go to a gym and use machines in order to lose weight or gain muscle.
FACT: Machines can be just as tough to maintain good form as free weights. And because machines isolate specific muscles, you actually burn fewer calories on a machine than you do when you exercise freestyle. Stick to body weight or free weight exercises at home, and save your money!
Best way to get the most out of your home workout!
